Shopify studio for the United States

Shopify design and development for US brands

We design and build Shopify stores for brands across the United States as a remote-first studio working with brands worldwide.

Short answerThe Silver Arc is an official Shopify Partner (Select tier) that designs and builds Shopify stores for US brands. We're a remote studio, so there's no US office; we work with US brands remotely. We handle custom design, development, migrations, B2B and Plus work, all set up in your own Shopify account.

What do US shoppers expect from a Shopify store?

US shoppers expect a fast, mobile-first checkout with wallets and installments, clear shipping promises and an easy returns policy. They are used to Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Amazon-style delivery estimates, so friction anywhere in the funnel shows up quickly in conversion.

The US is also where Shopify has the deepest feature set: Shopify Payments, Shop Pay Installments, discounted carrier labels and Shopify Tax all launched there first. The work is less about adapting the platform and more about using it well, then getting the tax, shipping and compliance details right state by state.

Which payment methods should a US store offer?

Cards and wallets through Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, PayPal and an installment option cover what most US customers expect. For B2B buyers, add net terms and ACH.

  • Shopify Payments handles cards plus accelerated checkouts such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • PayPal. US merchants offer PayPal as a PayPal Wallet through Shopify Payments; the older PayPal Express Checkout setup isn't available to US stores.
  • Shop Pay Installments is available to eligible US stores on orders from $35 to $30,000, so customers can split payments without leaving Shop Pay.
  • B2B. Since April 2, 2026, Shopify's core B2B features, including payment terms and vaulted cards, work on Basic, Grow and Advanced, not only Plus. See our guide to Shopify B2B without Plus.

There is no single federal ecommerce rulebook like the EU's. Instead, you deal with state sales tax, a handful of FTC rules, accessibility expectations and, for importers, customs. This checklist covers what we set up or flag on most US builds.

AreaWhat appliesWhat it means for your store
Sales taxPhysical nexus plus state economic nexus thresholds, which vary by state and review periodShopify tracks nexus in Tax liability insights and flags states at 80% of a threshold; register before you collect
Shipping promisesFTC Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise RuleShip within the time you state, or within 30 days if you state none; offer a delay-or-cancel choice if you can't
ReviewsFTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials (2024)No fake, bought or AI-invented reviews; review apps must be configured honestly
AccessibilityADA Title III, per Department of Justice web guidance (2022)Businesses open to the public must make online goods and services accessible; build to WCAG from the start
Imported goodsDuty-free de minimis for shipments of $800 or less suspended for all countries since August 29, 2025Duties now apply to low-value imports, which affects landed costs and cross-border DTC pricing

Unlike the EU, the US has no general legal right to return online purchases. The FTC's Cooling-Off Rule covers sales made at home or temporary locations, not web orders. Your returns policy is a commercial choice, so make it generous enough to compete and clear enough to trust. Shopify's policy templates are a starting point, not legal advice.

How should shipping and returns be set up for the US?

Use Shopify Shipping with USPS, UPS, FedEx or DHL for labels, show delivery estimates on product and cart pages, and decide early whether you will ship from one warehouse or several.

The US is big: ground shipping from a single warehouse on one coast to the other typically takes several days. Many brands use a 3PL with East and West Coast locations, which also matters for sales tax because inventory in a state creates physical nexus. For returns, a self-serve portal in customer accounts or a returns app keeps support tickets down.

Competing with Amazon on your own store

Most US categories have Amazon sellers competing on price and Prime delivery speed. Your Shopify store wins on brand, bundles, subscriptions, content and owning the customer relationship. If you already sell on Amazon, our guide to moving from Amazon to Shopify DTC covers how to do that without cannibalizing the channel.

How do we work with US brands?

We're a remote studio, so there's no local office; we work with brands across the US remotely. The company is registered in the US.

We work asynchronously by email and Basecamp and schedule calls within your working hours. That works the same for East Coast and West Coast teams.

  1. Discovery call, booked at silverarc.youcanbook.me.
  2. Written proposal with scope and timeline.
  3. Design questionnaire, then a first Figma design in under a week and up to 3 revision rounds.
  4. Development and integrations in your own Shopify account.
  5. Launch and handover: you own the store, theme, domain and data.

Frequently asked questions

Can a remote studio really work with a US brand?

Yes. We run projects asynchronously by email and Basecamp and schedule calls within your working hours. Everything is built in your own Shopify account, so there is no handover of hosting or ownership at the end.

Do I have to collect sales tax in every US state?

No. You collect where you have nexus: physical presence such as a warehouse, or sales above a state's economic nexus threshold. Thresholds and review periods differ by state. Shopify's Tax liability insights page tracks your Shopify sales against them, but confirm registrations with a tax professional.

Can US Shopify stores offer PayPal and buy now, pay later?

Yes. US stores offer PayPal as a PayPal Wallet through Shopify Payments, and eligible stores can turn on Shop Pay Installments for orders from $35 to $30,000. Other BNPL providers can be added through apps or additional payment gateways.

Does my Shopify store need to be ADA accessible?

The Department of Justice says businesses open to the public must make the goods and services they offer online accessible to people with disabilities. There is no Shopify setting that makes a store compliant on its own, so we build themes with accessible markup, contrast and keyboard navigation and recommend an audit for high-risk stores.

How does the end of de minimis affect my Shopify store?

Since August 29, 2025, shipments of $800 or less no longer enter the US duty-free, whatever the origin. If you import inventory in small parcels or ship to US customers from abroad, duties now affect your margins and checkout pricing, so it is worth reviewing landed costs and whether to show duties at checkout.
