B2B & Plus

Is Shopify Plus Worth It in 2026? Costs, Features and Break-Even

Short answerShopify Plus is worth it when you've hit a specific limit it removes, such as checkout customization, unlimited B2B catalogs, deposits, expansion stores or staff limits, and you have the revenue to use those features. It starts at $2,300 a month on a 3-year term. Lower fees alone rarely cover that unless you process several million dollars a year.

Key takeaways

  • Plus costs $2,300/mo on a 3-year term or $2,500/mo on a 1-year term. Complex businesses may pay a variable fee instead.
  • Shopify doesn't publish the variable fee rate, so get its terms in writing before signing.
  • Card-rate savings alone break even at about $9.6M a year processed through Shopify Payments, compared with Advanced.
  • Flow and core B2B are now on every plan, so the case for Plus rests on checkout, advanced B2B, expansion stores and scale.
  • Upgrade when you can name the feature you need and what it's worth to your business.

How much does Shopify Plus cost in 2026?

Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 per month on a 3-year term or $2,500 per month on a 1-year term (USD). Larger or more complex businesses may pay a variable platform fee based on revenue and business model instead of the flat fee.

Shopify's Plus pricing page says these fees cover standard setups and integrations. On top of the subscription, budget for:

  • Payment processing. Plus card rates through Shopify Payments start at 2.25% + 30¢ online in the US, according to Shopify's pricing page. The Plus page notes rates vary by country, so get your quote from sales.
  • Third-party gateway fee. If you don't use Shopify Payments, Shopify charges 0.20% per transaction on top of your processor's fees.
  • Extra stores. Your main store plus 9 expansion stores are included. More stores cost $300 a month each or a revenue share, and a separate brand needs its own contract.
  • Build and apps. Custom development, themes, partners and third-party apps cost extra.

Local-currency pricing exists too. In the EU, for example, Shopify's Help Center lists Plus at €2,100 a month on a 3-year term and €2,250 on a 1-year term.

What is the Shopify Plus variable platform fee?

Shopify doesn't publish a rate. Its pricing page only says higher-volume or more complex businesses switch to a variable fee "based on their revenue and business model," and you have to contact sales for it.

You'll see percentages and caps quoted online, but we couldn't find any of them in Shopify's own documentation, so treat them as examples from individual contracts. Before you sign, get in writing which revenue counts toward the fee, any threshold or cap, how B2B and DTC sales are treated, and how renewal works.

What do you actually get with Shopify Plus?

Plus adds features for running checkout, operations and international or wholesale sales at scale. The most valuable ones are checkout customization, advanced B2B, expansion stores, unlimited staff, higher API limits and lower transaction fees.

  • Checkout customization: checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps, the Checkout Branding API, and custom apps that use Shopify Functions. See our checkout extensibility guide.
  • Full B2B: unlimited catalogs, catalogs assigned to individual companies, deposits, partial payments and payment requests per fulfillment.
  • Expansion stores: up to 9 included, for regions, brands under one entity, or a dedicated wholesale site.
  • Team and operations: unlimited staff accounts, custom user groups, up to 200 inventory locations, and the Launchpad app for scheduled sales and launches.
  • Scale: API rate limits up to 10x on select APIs, 25 headless storefronts, and priority 24/7 support.

Shopify Flow, which used to be a reason to upgrade, is now free on every plan from Basic up. Native B2B basics have also been on non-Plus plans since April 2, 2026. Several of the old reasons to move to Plus no longer apply.

When does Shopify Plus pay for itself?

Lower transaction fees alone rarely cover the cost unless you process several million dollars a year. Plus usually pays off through what it unlocks, such as higher checkout conversion, B2B revenue, fewer separate stores or saved team time, not through fee savings.

Here's the fee math, using Shopify's published US rates against Advanced billed yearly ($299 a month):

Cost lineAdvancedPlusDifference
Subscription (per year)$3,588$27,600 (3-year term)About $24,000 more on Plus
Online card rate (Shopify Payments)2.5% + 30¢2.25% + 30¢0.25 points lower
Third-party gateway fee0.6%0.2%0.4 points lower
Break-even on card-rate savings onlyAbout $9.6M a year processed through Shopify Payments
Break-even on gateway-fee savings onlyAbout $6M a year processed through a third-party gateway

These numbers leave out any variable platform fee, negotiated rates and implementation costs, so use them as a starting point, not a quote.

A more useful way to think about break-even:

  1. List the specific problems Plus would solve, such as a checkout upsell, contract pricing, a second regional store or a staff limit.
  2. Price your current workarounds: apps, a second store's plan, manual order handling, developer time.
  3. Estimate the upside. For example, a 1% relative lift in checkout conversion on $3M a year is about $30,000 in extra revenue, before margins. Be conservative.
  4. Add the switching cost: development to use the new capabilities, plus any new apps.
  5. Compare that total with the extra roughly $24,000 a year, and remember you're committing for 1 or 3 years.

Who should upgrade to Shopify Plus?

Plus is worth it for brands that have hit a specific limit Plus removes and have the revenue to use what it unlocks. That usually means established brands with complex B2B, several markets or brands, or a checkout they need to customize.

  • B2B with negotiated pricing that needs more than 3 catalogs or a catalog per account, plus deposits or partial payments.
  • Multi-store setups that would otherwise pay for several Advanced plans. Nine included expansion stores change the math.
  • Checkout-driven brands that want custom fields, upsells or validation on the shipping and payment steps.
  • Larger teams that need more than 15 staff accounts or custom permission groups.
  • High-volume stores where lower fees and API limits matter, and flash sales are routine.

Who shouldn't upgrade?

Most stores under roughly $1–2M a year with a single brand, standard checkout and simple wholesale should stay on Advanced or Grow. They'll get more from spending that money on design, CRO or marketing.

  • You want Plus "for status" or because a competitor has it.
  • Your B2B fits within 3 catalogs and standard net terms.
  • Your main problem is traffic or product-market fit. Plus doesn't fix either.
  • You can't commit to a 1- or 3-year term yet.

Our take

Since B2B and Flow came to all plans, Plus is a clearer decision than it used to be. Don't buy it hoping to grow into it. Buy it when you can name the feature you need and what it's worth to you. If you can't name one, stay on Advanced and revisit the question every year.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay for Shopify Plus monthly without a contract?

No. Plus is sold on 1-year or 3-year terms, at $2,500 or $2,300 a month respectively, and you can cancel when the term ends. If you can't commit yet, stay on Advanced, which you can pay month to month.

What revenue do you need for Shopify Plus?

Shopify doesn't set a minimum revenue. Based on fees alone, the upgrade rarely pays off below several million dollars a year. Brands with a clear need for checkout customization, advanced B2B or multiple stores can justify it earlier.

Does Shopify Plus include migration?

Shopify says migration to Plus is free, with paid services available. Your custom development, theme, design and third-party apps are still extra.

Is Shopify Flow still a Plus-only feature?

No. Shopify Flow is a free app on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus. Its Send HTTP request action needs Grow or higher, and tasks from custom partner apps are Plus-only.

Do I get a dedicated account manager on Shopify Plus?

Shopify's Plus plan page lists priority 24/7 phone and chat support. It doesn't promise a dedicated success manager for every Plus merchant, so ask your sales rep what support you'll get at your revenue level.
