Shopify studio for Italy
Shopify agency for brands in Italy
We work remotely with brands in Milan, Rome and across Italy on Shopify stores built for Italian shoppers and Italian rules.
Italian ecommerce at a glance
Italy rewards brands that look and feel premium and that remove friction at checkout. The essentials for a Shopify store are a strong Italian-language storefront, Satispay and PayPal next to cards, a visible partita IVA, and clear delivery and return terms.
| Topic | What applies in Italy |
|---|---|
| Shopify Payments | Available to merchants based in Italy |
| Local wallet | Satispay, for customers in Italy paying in EUR |
| Pay later | Klarna and Scalapay (early access) for customers in Italy paying in EUR |
| Standard VAT (IVA) | 22% |
| Withdrawal right | 14 days, with the EU online withdrawal function since June 19, 2026 |
| Legal guarantee | At least 2 years (EU minimum) |
| Time zone | CET/CEST |
Which payment methods should an Italian Shopify store offer?
Cards and PayPal are the baseline. Satispay is the local extra worth adding, because it is built for Italian customers and runs inside Shopify Payments.
- Satispay: customers must be in Italy and pay in EUR, from €0.50 per order, and it cannot be used for subscriptions. Your Shopify Payments account can be in Italy or in many other countries, so a Spanish or German brand selling into Italy can offer it too.
- Klarna and Scalapay: pay-in-instalments options that suit fashion, furniture and beauty baskets. Scalapay covers orders from €5 to €4,999.99 and is still in early access.
- Cash on delivery (contrassegno): some Italian shoppers still ask for it. Shopify supports it as a manual payment method, but it adds failed-delivery risk. Our take: only switch it on if your carrier handles COD well and your data shows demand.
What legal details does an Italian online store need?
The short list: your VAT number on the homepage, complete company details, terms of sale, a privacy and cookie policy aligned with GDPR, and working withdrawal and guarantee flows.
- Partita IVA on the homepage: under article 35 of DPR 633/1972, as clarified by the Agenzia delle Entrate, Italian VAT-registered businesses must show their VAT number on the homepage of their website. On Shopify we usually put it in the footer, which appears on every page including the homepage.
- Withdrawal: 14 days, plus a clearly visible electronic withdrawal function with a confirmation step and an automatic email acknowledgment, required across the EU since June 19, 2026.
- Legal guarantee: the EU minimum of two years from delivery, with defects in the first year presumed to have existed at delivery.
- Accessibility: the European Accessibility Act has applied since June 28, 2025. Our EAA guide explains the theme-level work.
We build the pages and flows; wording should be checked by your Italian commercialista or lawyer.
Selling B2B in Italy
Italy has a large base of manufacturers and wholesalers selling to retailers, from fashion and textiles to food and furniture. Since April 2, 2026, Shopify's native B2B tools (company profiles, up to three B2B catalogs, volume pricing, quantity rules and payment terms) are included on Basic, Grow and Advanced, not only on Plus. See Shopify B2B without Plus.
One Italian detail: VAT-registered businesses in Italy issue electronic invoices through the government's Sistema di Interscambio (SdI). Shopify does not do this on its own, so B2B stores need an invoicing app or an export to your accounting software. We plan that integration during discovery, not after launch.
Shipping and returns in Italy
Most Italian stores use Poste Italiane or SDA for national coverage and a courier such as BRT or GLS for speed. Islands and remote areas like Sardinia, Sicily and mountain villages can add time, so show delivery estimates by zone instead of a single national promise. Returns should mirror your withdrawal terms exactly.
Marketplaces such as Amazon.it and Zalando set expectations on speed and free returns. You do not need to match them on everything, but you do need to be clear about what you offer.
VAT for brands selling into Italy
Italy's standard IVA rate is 22%. If you sell to Italian consumers from another EU country, Italian VAT applies once your total cross-border B2C sales in the EU exceed €10,000 a year, and you can declare it through the One Stop Shop. Shopify Markets lets you show IVA-inclusive prices in EUR for Italy while keeping other markets separate; see our Shopify Markets guide.
How we work with Italian brands
We work remotely with brands in Milan, Rome, Turin, Florence, Bologna and Naples. We work asynchronously by email and Basecamp and schedule calls within your working hours. We work in English; Italian copy comes from your team or translator, and we build the Italian-first, multilingual structure around it.
The process is fixed and transparent: discovery call, written proposal, design questionnaire, first design in under a week, up to three revision rounds, development, then launch and handover. Your store, domain and apps stay in your own accounts.

Frequently asked questions
Can I accept Satispay on Shopify?
Yes. Satispay is a local payment method in Shopify Payments for customers in Italy paying in EUR. It requires Shopify Payments, cannot be used for subscription products and is not available to some business types such as gambling or crypto.
Do I have to show my partita IVA on my Shopify store?
If you are VAT-registered in Italy, yes. Article 35 of DPR 633/1972, as interpreted by the Agenzia delle Entrate, requires the VAT number on the homepage of the company website. A footer line covers it on every page.
Does Shopify issue Italian electronic invoices?
Not natively. Italian VAT-registered businesses send electronic invoices through the Sistema di Interscambio, so most Shopify stores use an invoicing app or sync orders to accounting software that handles SdI. We choose and connect that tool during the build.
Do I need Shopify Plus to sell wholesale in Italy?
Not anymore. Since April 2, 2026, native B2B features including company profiles, up to three B2B catalogs, volume pricing and payment terms are available on Basic, Grow and Advanced. Plus adds unlimited catalogs, deposits and checkout customization.
Do you have staff in Italy?
No. We're a remote studio, so there's no local office; we work with Italian brands remotely by email and Basecamp, in English, and schedule calls within your working hours.
