Shopify studio for the United Kingdom
Shopify design and development for UK brands
We design and build Shopify stores for UK brands as a remote-first studio, working by email and Basecamp.
What do UK shoppers expect from an online store?
UK shoppers expect prices in pounds with VAT included, a quick wallet checkout, a pay-later option, cheap or free delivery to home or a locker, and a returns process that works without emailing anyone. They are also some of Europe's most experienced online buyers, so a store that feels like a US or EU store with a currency switcher stands out for the wrong reasons.
Small details matter: UK spelling (colour, jewellery), sizes, "basket" vs "cart" depending on your brand voice, and delivery language like "next working day".
Which payment methods work for UK Shopify stores?
Shopify Payments is available in the UK and covers cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay. On top of that, UK stores have two built-in pay-later routes plus PayPal.
- Shop Pay Installments is available to eligible UK-based stores on orders from £50 to £30,000.
- Klarna can be enabled through Shopify Payments for UK stores, with UK customers paying in GBP: pay in 30 days, pay in 3, pay in full or financing.
- PayPal Express Checkout runs alongside Shopify Payments for UK merchants.
Our take: pick one pay-later provider and present it well on product pages, rather than stacking three logos. Too many options can slow the checkout without adding conversions.
What legal requirements apply to UK online stores?
UK consumer law kept most of the EU-era basics and added a much tougher enforcement regime in 2025. The checklist below covers what we make sure your store shows correctly.
| Requirement | Rule | What it means on Shopify |
|---|---|---|
| 14-day cancellation | Consumer Contracts Regulations | Customers can cancel up to 14 days after delivery without a reason; if you don't tell them, the period can stretch by up to 12 months |
| Pre-contract information | Consumer Contracts Regulations | Business name and address, full price including taxes, delivery costs and times, cancellation rights and a cancellation form, in a form customers can keep |
| Company details on the website | Company, LLP and Business (Names and Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2015 | Registered name, registered number, registered office address and part of the UK where registered, usually in the footer |
| No drip pricing | DMCC Act 2024, in force since April 6, 2025 | Mandatory charges must be in the headline price, so check how fees appear on product and cart pages |
| No fake reviews | DMCC Act 2024 | Fake reviews are banned outright, and businesses that publish reviews must take reasonable steps to prevent and remove them |
The DMCC Act also lets the Competition and Markets Authority fine businesses up to 10% of global turnover for consumer law breaches directly, without going to court first. That changes the risk calculation for "we'll fix the small print later".
The EU's new online withdrawal button, required since June 19, 2026, does not apply to UK domestic sales. If your UK store also sells to EU consumers, it does apply to those orders, and Shopify lets you set market-specific return and cancellation rules.
How do VAT and shipping work for the UK?
UK VAT is charged at the point of sale for consignments of £135 or less sent from overseas, so non-UK brands selling to UK consumers generally need to register for UK VAT and charge it at checkout.
That is the single biggest operational difference for EU and US brands entering the UK since Brexit. For UK-based brands, it works the other way: selling into the EU means EU VAT schemes and customs paperwork. We set up Shopify Markets so prices are shown VAT-inclusive in GBP and duties are handled consistently. Our guide to Shopify Markets covers the setup in more depth.
For delivery, Shopify Shipping in the UK supports Royal Mail, Evri, DPD, InPost and DHL Express, so you can buy labels from the admin. Lockers and pickup points are widely used, so make sure your checkout and delivery options support them.
How do we work with UK brands?
We're a remote studio, so there's no local office; we work with brands in the UK remotely. We work asynchronously by email and Basecamp and schedule calls within your working hours.
- Discovery call, booked at silverarc.youcanbook.me.
- Written proposal with scope and timeline.
- Design questionnaire, first Figma design in under a week, up to 3 revision rounds.
- Development in your own Shopify account, with UK English copy and GBP pricing.
- Launch and handover. You own the store, theme, domain and data.
Projects run in English by email and Basecamp. Because we are in the EU, we are also comfortable setting up the EU side of a UK brand's store when you are ready to ship to Ireland or the continent.

Frequently asked questions
Is Shopify Payments available in the UK?
Yes. UK businesses can use Shopify Payments for cards and accelerated checkouts like Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay. Eligible UK stores can also offer Klarna and Shop Pay Installments, and PayPal Express Checkout can run alongside it.
What does the DMCC Act change for my Shopify store?
Since April 6, 2025, the CMA can fine businesses directly, up to 10% of global turnover, for consumer law breaches. The Act also bans drip pricing, where mandatory charges are added after the headline price, and fake reviews. Check your product, cart and review setup with this in mind.
Does the EU withdrawal button apply to UK stores?
Not to sales to UK consumers, because it comes from an EU directive. If you sell to consumers in EU countries, those orders are covered from June 19, 2026, so you need an online withdrawal function for your EU market.
Do I need UK VAT registration to sell to UK customers from abroad?
Usually yes. For consignments of £135 or less sent from outside the UK to consumers, VAT is charged at the point of sale, so the seller generally needs to register and charge UK VAT. Confirm your situation with an accountant.
Which shipping carriers can I use with Shopify in the UK?
Shopify Shipping supports Royal Mail, Evri, DPD, InPost and DHL Express for UK fulfillment locations, so you can buy labels directly in the admin. Other carriers can be connected through apps or carrier-calculated rates.
