Shopify for home decor & wallpaper
Shopify stores for home decor and wallpaper brands
Wallpaper and decor customers need to see the pattern on a wall, order the right quantity and often buy through a designer. We design and build Shopify stores that handle samples, roll calculations, murals and trade accounts in one place.
Why are wallpaper and decor stores harder to build than they look?
Because the customer is buying a finished room, not a roll. They want to see scale, color and texture, they need to know how many rolls to buy, and many of them are interior designers or contractors who expect trade prices.
A generic theme handles none of that out of the box. The work is in the product page, the quantity logic and the account structure, and those decisions shape everything else.
How do you sell wallpaper samples on Shopify?
The simplest reliable approach is a "Sample" variant on each wallpaper product, next to the full roll. It keeps reviews, photos and URLs on one product, and samples go through the same checkout as rolls.
Some brands prefer separate sample products so they can run a "pick five samples" offer, set free shipping on samples only, or keep samples out of revenue reports. Both work. Our take: start with the variant approach unless you already know you want sample bundles.
Can Shopify calculate how many rolls a customer needs?
Not natively, but a calculator is a straightforward custom section. The customer enters wall width and height, and the calculator uses the roll width, roll length and pattern repeat stored in metafields to suggest a quantity and add it to the cart.
Pattern repeat matters: a large repeat wastes more paper per drop, so a calculator that ignores it under-orders. We always add a small allowance and a note, and recommend ordering everything at once.
Which Shopify features solve common wallpaper and decor problems?
| Decor challenge | Shopify solution |
|---|---|
| Customers want to see the pattern first | Sample variants or sample products, plus room-set photography |
| How many rolls to buy | Custom roll calculator using roll size and pattern repeat metafields |
| Made-to-measure murals | Width and height captured as line item properties, priced by a custom calculator or app |
| Shade differences between print runs | Batch information on the product page and in order notes, with inventory per batch where needed |
| Interior designer and trade pricing | Native B2B: company profiles, B2B catalogs, volume pricing, payment terms |
| Specs: material, washability, fire rating | Metafields shown as a specs block and used as filters |
Why do wallpaper batch numbers matter for ecommerce?
Rolls from different print runs can vary slightly in color and pattern, which shows once the paper is on the wall. That is why manufacturers advise buying all rolls for a project from the same batch.
For a store, this means two things: tell customers clearly to order their full quantity at once, and make sure the warehouse ships matching batches. Brands that track stock by batch sometimes model each batch as a separate inventory item, so the store never mixes them in one order.
How should trade and B2B buyers be handled?
Since April 2, 2026, native Shopify B2B is available on Basic, Grow and Advanced, not just Plus. Interior designers, decorators and retailers get a company account, a B2B catalog with their prices, volume pricing and quantity rules, and payment terms. Quantity rules can enforce minimums and increments, such as selling a commercial wallcovering only in full rolls of a set multiple.
Plus adds unlimited catalogs, direct catalog assignment, deposits, partial payments and checkout customization, which matters for brands with many trade tiers or contract projects. We cover the trade-offs in Shopify B2B without Plus and the Shopify B2B guide.
What compliance notes apply to home decor sold in the EU?
- Product safety (GPSR): Since December 13, 2024, the EU General Product Safety Regulation requires online offers to show the manufacturer's name, postal and electronic address (or the EU responsible economic operator), product pictures and type, and any warnings or safety information.
- Wallcoverings as construction products: Decorative wallcoverings in the EU are covered by the harmonized standard EN 15102 under the Construction Products Regulation, which links to CE marking. Your manufacturer should supply the declaration; we add a downloads area for it and other technical sheets.
Check the exact obligations for your products with your supplier or a compliance advisor.
What design priorities matter for decor stores?
Scale, context and inspiration. Room sets and close-ups for every pattern, a "view in room" or 3D model where you have it, filters by color, style and room, and inspiration pages that link straight to products. For trade buyers, add fast reorder, downloadable spec sheets and a clear trade application page.
How we build home decor and wallpaper stores
We have worked with wholesale manufacturers and artisan brands, including the UN Refugee Agency's MADE51 project. We start with a discovery call and design questionnaire, plan samples, calculators and the B2B setup, then our designer delivers a first design in under a week with up to three revision rounds, built in your own Shopify account.

Send us your store URL and we'll email you the fixes that matter most. No call needed.
Frequently asked questions
Is Shopify good for selling wallpaper?
Yes, if the store is built for wallpaper. You need sample ordering, a roll calculator, specs like pattern repeat and roll size, and often trade pricing. Shopify supports all of this with variants, metafields, custom sections and native B2B.
How do I sell custom-size wallpaper murals on Shopify?
Capture width and height as line item properties on the product page, then price the mural with a custom calculator or a product options app that adjusts the price. The dimensions travel with the order so production gets exact measurements. Show a clear proof and approval step if you print on demand.
Can interior designers get trade prices on my Shopify store?
Yes. Native B2B on Basic, Grow and Advanced lets you create company accounts with their own B2B catalog, volume pricing, quantity rules and payment terms. Brands with many trade tiers may need Shopify Plus for unlimited catalogs.
Should wallpaper samples be free?
It depends on margins and how many samples convert. Many brands charge a small amount and credit it against a roll order, or offer a limited number of free samples. On Shopify this can be a low-priced sample variant plus a discount code included with the sample order.
What does GPSR mean for a home decor Shopify store?
If you sell consumer products into the EU, each online offer must show the manufacturer's or responsible operator's contact details, product pictures and type, and any safety warnings. On Shopify we store this in metafields so it appears consistently on every product page.
